Frances is a dynamic educator with a proven track record of fostering creativity, inclusivity, and personal growth in diverse learning environments. With experience spanning theatre, arts education, and therapeutic support, Frances is deeply committed to empowering students and creating meaningful educational experiences while centering trauma informed practices.
Currently serving as a key member of The Huntington Theatre’s Education Department, Frances has taught workshops for elementary students all the way up through seniors at the Arlington Council on Aging. She is a contributing writer on the department’s Curriculum Guide series (linked below), in addition to providing administrative support to the departments wide variety of programming.
Frances has held pivotal roles at Theater in the Open Summer Arts Workshop since 2019 including Head Teacher, and Curriculum Consultant. This program, serving 300+ students a summer, encourages young people aged 6 to 16 to develop their individual voice through the magic of outdoor arts education. Notably, she spearheaded the redesign of the Summer Arts Workshop visual arts curriculum during the pandemic, seamlessly transitioning programs to virtual platforms. In 2023 she became Associate Program Director. In this leadership role, she implemented policy overhauls, established robust staff training protocols, and mentored junior educators, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
As a director and choreographer at Newton Kids Theater, Frances has brought the magic of musical theatre to life for elementary aged performers while mentoring high school assistants with essential classroom management skills.
In her work with Brookline Public Schools and Shady Hill School, Frances has demonstrated versatility as a substitute teacher, stepping into classrooms from pre-K to 12th grade. She excels in quickly adapting lesson plans, managing classroom dynamics, and ensuring continuity in learning.
No matter the educational setting, Frances’ experience in therapeutic contexts is always at the forefront of her teaching philosophy. As a Therapeutic Mentor with ARTRelief Expressive Arts Therapy Center, she provided strength-based, one-on-one support for youth, guiding them in developing social, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. IN that role she also founded and led the center’s first LGBTQIA+ preteen/teen art club, creating a safe and inclusive space for self-expression.
A natural leader, Frances has consistently balanced administrative responsibilities with hands-on teaching roles, demonstrating exceptional organizational, mentorship, and interpersonal skills. Whether inspiring campers at Beaver Country Day School’s summer program or facilitating workshops for high school students, she approachs every endeavor with creativity, compassion, and a dedication to equity in education.
Frances is passionate about using the arts as a catalyst for learning and personal growth. As an educator and human being her guiding mission is that we are each doing the best we can with the resources we have available to us. Only by identifying needs and finding ways to address those needs will we all be able thrive. In her work across arts eduction, Frances hopes to be a resource and support to young people on their own unique journeys to becoming their best selves and realizing their fullest potential.
